ADR 055: Views as generated projections

Date: 2026-07-15

Status: Accepted

Decision Makers: @derlinne, @luckey

Context

Consumers need inlined and bundled representations of a schema, but these must not become independent artifacts.

Decision

Inlined View and Bundled View are generated at runtime from the registry artifacts and are not stored.

Rationale

  • Generated views over the same body of information are not independent artifacts.
  • For every schema version the correct view can be computed deterministically.

View types

  • Inlined — all CORE-URN $refs replaced with the actual schema content (cycle-safe). Keywords next to a $ref (e.g. description, title) are preserved and layered over the embedded target.
  • Bundled — all transitive dependencies are embedded as JSON Schema embedded resources under $defs (each keeps its $id); CORE-URN $refs stay absolute and resolve against these $ids. This is the only variant that remains self-contained for dep→dep references (chains, diamonds, cycles).
